Ultimate goal state

  1. site and services hosted on one server, one platform
  2. (mostly done) new web presence that looks nice, is easily updateable by many people (with permissions), using a modern, open-source content management system. http://aectnow.org
  3. allow users to have one login (the drupal site login). To not have to use "membership number" and last name to log in. Members can change their password at will.
  4. members and officers create and update site content. (now possible with drupal).
  5. Larry V. manages member's accounts like membership, listservs, registration
  6. Larry's system handles convention program planning and integrates with new drupal site.
  7. make it so the new drupal site can be found at the domain aect.org instead of aectnow.org, and have business processes (current aect.org site) at aectbusiness.org or something like that.

Convention and Convention Planning Goals:

  1. make it so each session has a drupal entry so attendees can see the sessions quickly, add comments, links, etc. This means getting the session database from Larry at some point before the convention and importing it into drupal.

Major Tasks Remaining

  1. Identify a Web Director and Editor and arrange for him or her to lead this project -- a relatively long term commitment.
  2. figure out how to get the IIS server and Larry's system to talk to and integrate with the Drupal system. To allow users to have a seamless experience while using what appears to them to be one site.
  3. integrate the business processes and money handling with the new drupal site (if needed)

Timeline:

2007

  • improve aect.org (we skipped this and went straight to a new site, aectnow.org)
  • figure out how to make drupal and IIS send information back and forth
  • formless login link. so a division officer has certain permissions
  • set up query so IIS can read a portion of drupal based on certain criteria
  • defining what database drupal is going to read, and where
  • migrate all members.org content to the bluehost service (almost done), because aect-members.org has a max of 500MB, and bluehost has 50GB
  • install wordpress multiuser on bluehost. get off moveable type. find moveable type to wordpress importer
  • use RSS to Javascript script to aggregate division content onto aectnow.org and aect.org
  • international div (and others) are using members.org listservs
  • larry will check for duplications
