Chapter Notes/Information

  1. what about that definition of technology
  2. what about student centered environments
  3. what about that crazy NTeQ model...

Technology is something that was created to make something else easier to do or complete. (e.g. wheel, stone tablets, pen and paper)
Forms of technology include process technology (seating chart) and durable technology (binder). Also networking is a form of technology because it is the distribution of content, i.e., message delivered from one source to another.

Panel discussion

Bill said: "Information distributed from one source to many sources is one model; we can move to another model where all students are also 'teachers' using technology. Technology -- not necessarily computer hardware/software -- is necessary for this to happen."

Dr. M: "Dissemination of information gives the students more control over their learning environment."

Discussion about the purpose of education:

  1. make citizens productive: Bill
  2. prepare students for earning capacity: Anne
  3. consult teachers on classroom design: Judy
  4. stakeholders in public education: everyone: Dr. M. (That's an issue because when reform is attempted, everyone feels they have a voice.)
  5. differences in teaching styles can cause conflicts (Parents had one style of instruction, and don't agree wth what their children are experiencing.)

Just a question -- Should teachers be allowed to assign an internet based homework project/assignment?<<<<<<<<<
Another question, are we supposed to read just Chapter 3 or Chapters 3 and 4 before Tuesday's class?
