Blog affordances:

Blog software is installed on your local client or server. It allows the writer to create entries. These entries are formatted in a specific way (and in reverse chronological order).

May include technorati tags. These assist with organizing folders and files. Pictures and files can be "tagged." This allows you to create ONE folder with ALL pictures, etc. Then, you can tag each file or picture, etc. Each file can have multiple tags. This helps to classify / categorize each file to a subject or topic with a broader subject.

Uses categories and tags to organize content.

Time dates each entry

New tool RSS ("Really Simple Syndication"). Enables you to receive content and will notify you when new content is published.

One FREE tool helps you find and read content when and where you want it...."Bloglines." Search engine, news feed, you can also choose to make your feeds public. This allows someone to learn from others about what they think is important, e.g. apprentice/mentor relationship.

Blogline and RSS could be used to develop a reading list for your students.
-blog = a website with certain affordances

           = a "personal butler"

Whatever you're a fan of you can subscribe to available news feeds, e.g. sports figures, actors, states, sports programs, etc.

An example of a blog can be found at http://teachable.org/blog/

You can also subscribe to del.icio.us and learn about updates on bookmarking records of another person. You can also refine your view of another's bookmarks by identifying certain bookmarks by TAGS.

MMORPG- The proliferation of these multi-player games is advanced with such trends as celebrity poker/gambling. In addition, a lot of gamers can benefit from the availability of additional players. Most people don't have Paris Hilton's address book and need help mustering up a group of friends to spend free time. Magdalun Horton

MMORPG- I looked at the website www.worldofwarcraft.com, my brother-in-law plays this game so I checked out the website and I called him to ask him about MMORPG's. He told me that he has
40-50 friends who all log on at the same time to play as a team together. He said that you really have to have a team to be very successful at this game because some of the dungeons and levels are very hard to conquer on your own. He also said that they use this time to talk about other stuff while they play the game so it is also a social hour for them. I asked him about selling characters and he said this is frowned upon in this game but if he were to sell his character it would be worth around $1,000. I really learned a lot about MMORPG's and this particular game from the website and from talking to my brother-in-law. I found them to be very interesting! April Stewart Johnson

MMORPG -- I was going to post some general information on MMORPGs for the class, however, the wikipedia site that Anne posted above is a very good background information site about the emergence of MMORPGs. Instead, I'll post some links to the home pages of several of the mentioned games. - Julie
