Instructional Methods

  • need to be varied, within reason
  • children need learner accomodations

Instructional Objectives

  • need to be clearly defined, connected
  • vocabulary should be relative to student ability
  • assessment should be tied to the objective
  • create assessments when you create objectives
  • complete alignment with objectives and assessments
  • should be measurable (using a verb)(p. 49 gives examples of action verbs for a behavior objective)

The World is Flat

Is there a need for a national curriculum?

  • Do we focus too much on testing?
  • Is NCLB a kind of National Curriculum?
    Maybe, maybe not. 
It may give us something to work towards,

but it does not take learning styles and other factors into account.

  • What do students need to know to contribute to society?
  • Students from all over the world come to the US for higher ed(look for recruits from other countries)

To do for next class

  • Become familiar with spreadsheets
  • Go to Dr. Martindale's UM Drive and look at example spreadsheets
  • Decide your level of Excel ability
  • Use tutorial to become familiar if you need to
  • Spreadsheet Assignment Due next Tuesday (6/19)
