Today's notes

Website for software, Filemaker Pro 8.5 mac/win is $149.75

PowerPoint - You can use PowerPoint buttons to link slides within a presentation or to other presentations, Word document, Excel files, etc.

Video Chat - We experimented with the iChat program, talking to each other. What fun!

Skype Another video messaging client. You can also text IM and make calls to phones (although I think they charge a small fee these days for that feature). Skype is another video messaging client. Audacity....Free/open source software for editing. You can edit any audio file with the proper equipment and this program. Audacity link for downloading!

Dr. M bought an AppleTV

We created Wiki's at one of the following sites:

We all created Wet Paint accounts. Two main issues - it doesn't work well with Safari and there is no way to get rid of the ads since there is not a paid version of Wet Paint.

Content Management Systems: People with the correct permissions can submit/correct information on a page. This helps keep things current and correct. For example see IDT Dept. They use Drupal which is free. It is created by a group of people, not a company. Although it is not a beginner level program. Dr M's del.icio.us Drupal tagged items.

Another Content Management program is Joomla

Course Management Systems: Allow you to create a system for your class that includes, documents, discussions, etc.

are all examples.

To Do for Next Class Meeting

  • Unit Plan Due
  • Quiz on Chapter 13 & 14

Here is what Dr. M was talking about in class. Two examples of people using visuals to energized their prepared speeches.

  • See Larry Lessig (the Stanford Law professor) and how he presents. Watch his presentation.
  • Included in this post is a link to a researcher named Dick Hardt who I mentioned used several hundred slides in his 15-minute talk "Identity 2.0". Watch his presentation.
