Lectora

Okay, Ray (and everybody)... I didn't take the time to request the free 14 day trial or sign up for the demo on Wednesday, but I can tell you that this commercial software does not come cheap. That said, the company's info indicates that this really is a full-featured product, so if you as an instructional designer have any say over what environment your company will design its content, this would be worth investigating. A benefit/cost comparison with other similar products would be part of your due diligence.

Lectora is a full-featured eLearning authoring system from Trivantis (corporate headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio; training and development offices in Boca Raton, FL; international offices in Paris and the UK). The company also offers a learning management system (Coursemill) which is available either as software (for installation on your server), or as a remote hosted solution.

The basic product is the Lectora Publisher Authoring Tool (sold with or without an Integrator for PowerPoint). The ProSuite includes additional tools for screen captures and image-audio-and video editing.

Purchase pricing is per license.

Various support packages are available as well as online communities, support groups, online Tips and Tricks (appears to be created in their own product). You can also download pdf versions of the manuals.

Lectora supports a wide variety of media types

Users include:

  • DaimlerChrysler
  • Great-West Life
  • Ky Department of Health
  • Procter & Gamble
  • Vanderbilt University
  • Bank of America
  • Lakota Local Schools

The product is SCORM compliant. The ADL Co-Lab is also featured on Trivantis' website.

Footnote for IDT students: Lectora also offers custom development services, so that means they may be hiring instructional designers.

Interesting tidbit: Several years ago, Blackboard integrated Lectora as an offline authoring tool according to this article.
