Class Meeting Notes:

  • After the quiz, a brief discussion was held on learning theories; all learning theories have a time and place in instruction
  • A detailed discussion occured about the syllabus:
  1. We will focus on Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks throughout the semester (in that order)
  2. We will focus on the Dick & Carey model throughout the semester, Allessi & Trollip around the first of the semester and the Conrad text towards the end of the semester
  • Please review the syllabus for the course thoroughly as well as read through the Answers section (answers to Frequesntly Asked Questions for course)

Importat Information about the semester assignments

  • Quizzes - 10 points (approximately 15 quizzes will be given)
  • Class Activities and participation - 10 points
  • Design Document - 20 points

The Design Document will be used for both the HTML and Flash project. Both projects will focus on an insructional problem in the cognitive domain identified in the Design Document. TOPIC DUE at the beginning of next class. (Tip: The cognitive domain is something that the learner needs to know or understand.)

Additional information on the design documentation

  • The topic must be broad enough in scope to teach within 20 screens of instructional content
  • "Tell and Test" not acceptable, avoid "page turner" instruction -- consider text based simulation, create a virtual world, etc.
  • Design document needs to be web based (see examples at teachable.org
  • Use headings as listed in the assignment
  • Two sets of story boards: One complete work team development set, which is not nearly as detailed and one set with no more than three storyboards for the client (Dr. Martindale) with very specific detailed instructions. Dr. Martindale will provide the storyboard templates for us.

Ray and Dr. Martindale will research ways for us to upload projects to the IDT server.
