Hello classmates,

I'm Gregory with notes from our first class.

Our classmates present were: Susane, Clay, Haley, Sally Jessica, Amy, Julie, Tina, Matt, J.J., Brent, Emily, Dianne, Jamica, Kelly, Margie, Saem, Veronica, Robert, Lartarsha, and Tonya.

Our assignments for the next meeting on September 8th at 5:00 PM are:

  1. Check out the labs in Ball Hall.
  2. Go to http://teachable.org and check it out.
  3. Go to umdrive. Bring at least a 1 GB flash drive to class.
  4. Look up LMS which is Learning Management System
  5. Look up wiki to find LMS and wikipedia
  6. Visit elearn.memphis.edu to see assignments and syllabus
  7. Add something to wiki and click edit and do a student biography. Ex: Hello my name is..... and I love you because............
  8. Add something to wiki and tell what it was. Ex: The Grizzle's page that Dr. M changed.

Make any corrections or changes to these notes.

See you on the 8th. We will discuss Concept Mapping and have a quiz on the readings from chapters 1,2,3 4 and 14.

We are to review the notes from our first class and read chapters 1-4 and chapter 14 to prepare for a quiz to be given 9/8 at 5 p.m. J.J. Hutton

  1. look up LMS
  2. look up wiki on wikipedia
  3. visit the labs
  4. visit umdrive tutorial if necessary
  5. get a flash drive (about 1GB)
  6. visit elearn.memphis.edu in two days for syllabus and schedule

Learning Management System (LMS)

A Learning Management System (LMS) is software for delivering, tracking and managing items. LMSs can cater to different educational, administrative, and deployment requirements. Characteristics of LMSs include:

  • Manage users, roles, courses, instructors, and facilities and generate reports
  • Course calendar
  • Learner messaging and notifications
  • Assessment/testing capable of handling student pre/post testing
  • Display scores and transcripts
  • Grading of coursework and roster processing, including waitlisting
  • Web-based or blended course delivery

Wiki

A wiki is a collection of web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language.
