HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHAT A PERSONAL RESPONSE SYSTEM IS? SO HAVE I!

DON'T LET THE MANY DIFFERENT NAMES CONFUSE YOU!:

  • Student Response System (SRS)
  • Clicker System
  • Clicker
  • Personal Response Systems (PRS)

"Student Response Systems (SRS) or clicker systems are increasingly being adopted by faculty and are transforming traditionally passive lecture courses into stimulating and active classes."-wikipedia

Once students are in the classroom, teachers can pose questions at strategic moments throughout the class and allow students to respond using a clicker to send their responses to the classroom computer. Clickers can be as big as a media remote, or as small as a credit card, but they do the same thing essentially. In order to answer, students can press any number from 0 to 9 and their answer is sent to a receiver plugged into the teacher's computer.

Using a clicker or audience response system can significantly change the way you and your students interact by enabling you to assess your students' knowledge, keep their attention, provide immediate feedback, and encourage all students to participate. An audience response system can also be used in conference settings to poll the audience on any content you wish.

What else can a clicker do?

  • Easily conduct multiple assessments
  • Track student learning
  • Engage your entire class
  • Teachers can create interactive PowerPoint presentations
  • Collect real-time responses from students
  • Quickly assess students' achievement toward state standards
  • Teachers can evaluate the collective understanding of the entire class
  • Conduct formative assessments
  • Track individual student learning at the point of instruction
  • Assigning participation points
  • Help with grading tests
  • Create and run reports for virtually all of your classroom needs

Still a little fuzzy on what all this means?

In simple terms, an audience response system applies the technology used on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" to a learning environment.

Other cool stuff about Clickers:

  • “Question on the Fly” tool, you can easily ask unplanned questions and still review your questions and assign points after class.
  • The simple remote is innately well-suited for students with disabilities. The i>clicker remote's LED lights were designed with color blind students in mind. Most visually-impaired individuals are able to easily navigate i>clicker's six large buttons using the raised left edge as a tactile reference point. However, for those who require additional help, Braille stickers and a vibrating clicker are also available. For more information, please see our Accessibility statement.
