by Veronica Lemock What is Podcasting? Podcasting us an online audio content that is delivered via an RSS feed. Podcasting is quickly becoming a buzz word among the technology crowd. Podcasting gives far more options in terms of content and programming than radio does. With Podcasting listeners can determine the time and the place, meaning they decide what programming whey want to receive and when they want to listen to it. While blog has turned many bloggers to journalists, podcasting has the potential to turn podcasters into radio personalities.
Who invented Podcasting? There is a small controversy between Adam Curry and Dave Winer. Dave Winer is said to be the father of scripting and claims to be the first person to podcast, however, Adam Curry sees the opposite. Winer claim to have launched the first podcast in 2003 when he was a student at Harvard Law School Berkman Center for the Internet and Society. Curry did a lot of hosting mainly for MTV. Much credit is given to Winer because Curry did claim to do hosting and marketing for Podcasting.
What can Podcasting can be used for? Podcasting has expanded from the use of standard radio and audio? Podcasting can be used for self-guided walking tours, music, talk shows, training and story-telling for children or people that are visually impaired.
How does Podcasting works? Podcasting works the same as a standard RSS feed reader or news aggregator, the only difference is that the feed you subscribe to contains an audio file in it. Instead of reading content in your RSS feed reader or aggregator, you can listen to the contents of your feed using a reader or aggregator that supports podcasting, or you can listen to them on an IPOD or similar device. Although podcasting was named for the IPOD, you do not have to have an IPOD to listen to podcast. Podcasts can be displayed on websites with clickable links to audio files and many of the standard RSS readers. Click on the link for an example:[[http://www.feeddemon.com | FeedDemon]. The audio files that makes the feed a podcast rather than a standard RSS feed is contained in the enclosure tag. Think of it as an email attachment. While enclosures are not new to RSS feeds, podcasting has only been around for since the middle of 2004. Webmasters are finding creative ways to provide media-rich content. The syndication aspect and potential increase in audience size are an attractive lure.
Who benefits from Podcasting? Listeners benefit from podcasting because, like RSS, podcasting is a means to publish content that ultimately gives the recipient the control over the information they want to hear or see. As you can see everyone benefits in podcasting. Can educators benefit from podcasting? This article tells how podcasting can or possibly can have a benefit to educators. It also tells how parents may benefit from such extraordinary software. Benefits of Podcasting for Educators
The advantages and disadvantages of Podcasting. Podcasting, just like any other technology, has advantages and disadvantages. There is one primary factor that is both an advantage and disadvantage. Podcasting is like the unexplored country, this means that anyone with something to say, has an opportunity to say it, whether they have political views or success tip for people. The result is you’re going to get podcasts which provide real value and podcast which waste your time and podcast which can potentially offend. You will get podcast with nothing to say and podcast that say too much. Until some regulatory structure is established in this industry, podcasting is open to anyone and everyone who wants to get in on it. This is both an advantage and disadvantage of podcasting.
In conclusion there is much confusion about the founding father of Podcasting. With regards it has become a trend in today’s technology. It has been taking from the branch of the IPOD and has become a more useful and helpful tool for people all across the world.
